Treehouses Website Launched
Archicentre, the building advisory service of the
Royal Australian Institute of Architects, and Frankston
City Council have released a major website to promote
a unique rescue plan for a 100 year old historic
Moreton Bay Fig tree which was threatened by
development.
In a joint statement the Mayor of Frankston City
Council Cr. Barry Priestley and Managing Director of
Archicentre Mr Robert Caulfield said, "The Tree House
Project, to showcase careful environmental design and
best heritage practice to preserve established trees in
residential settings, would be promoted to schools and
councils throughout Australia."
The Treehouses Unit 1 The Green
Home
"Significant tree removal on private property is an
issue for all councils and local communities, and by
providing information on the website we are hoping to
provide people with an example of innovative
solutions."
The Treehouses Unit 2 The Kidsafe
Home
Mr Caulfield said that the two homes represent the
sort of challenge frequently facing architects,
designing buildings to suit specific site conditions
within the context of planning and community design
guidelines.
Both homes, designed by local Architect Colin Mitchell
and to be built by leading home builder Devine Homes,
reflect the best practice in building near significant
trees. Each home will have a distinct theme.
"Once completed the homes will be auctioned with the
profits being allocated to Kidsafe for Child Accident
Prevention programs and the Environment Fund of
Frankston City Council."
"We expect to commence construction work soon with
the project being completed by mid March 2005," Mr.
Caulfield said.
