 Community Launch Frankston City Council and Archicentre Tree Rescue Plan . A Year of the Built Environment Project

Community representatives held a special launch on site of the Tree House Project, Saving Moreton Bay on Saturday morning 28 February 2004.

Residents gathered together under the tree to symbolise their support for the project which is to begin within the next two months.

Robert Caulfield, Managing Director of Archicentre, Architect Colin Mitchell, Mayor Cathy Wilson, Frankston resident Kerry Millman and Nick Stevens, whose family have historic connections, talked to residents about the innovative project to save the 100 year old historic Moreton Bay Fig Tree which was threatened by development on the site.

The project part of the Year of the Built Environment will see two specially designed houses will be built on the land allotment featuring the tree to demonstrate best practice in preserving significant trees.

    Local Peninsula Architect Colin Mitchell, from Rye, has designed the Tree House Units for 138 Cranbourne Road Frankston.

    The Planning Permit Application for the Tree House Project will be lodged at Frankston City Council next week.

    Construction of a website for the national promotion of the Tree House Project has commenced.
