Greenhouse gas reduction is in the hands of the community especially for those people building new homes or renovating according to Archicentre, the building advisory service of the Australian Institute of Architects.
Angus Kell, ACT & NSW State Manager of Archicentre said the attack on increasing greenhouse gas levels commences at the design and planning stage of any home and the recognition that design is the foundation of the efficiency of the home environment.
Archicentre will hold a special seminar 'Renovating in the ACT- How and Architect can Help You' which will provide participants the opportunity to go behind the design process of several local architects and travel to the final design.
On the eve of the announcement of the winner of the Mervyn Willoughy-Thomas Renovation Award in the 2009 ACT Architecture Awards local architects Nabil Adhami, Victoria Grounds, Judith Phillips, Andrew Raszewski, and Allan Spira who all have submitted entries will present their project and discuss their work.
Mr Kell said the seminar will look at the stages involved in planning home renovations or new homes, and how architects can help you respond to issues such as legislative requirements, choosing appropriate materials, selecting a builder, and administration of building contracts in order to get the best possible result.
