Bushfires Spark Interest In Home Safety Design

The tragic bushfires in Victoria have dramatically increased the number of people seeking information about bushfire design for homes, Archicentre the building advisory service of the Australian Institute of Architects said today.

General Manager of Archicentre David Hallett said at one stage visits to the Archicentre website doubled in one day and there were a large number of downloads of the Archicentre Bushfire Design Guidelines pdf.

Mr. Hallett said Archicentre will commence free seminars across Australia next week covering Sustainability - building and renovation in a changing climate.

"One of the segments of this seminar deals with vegetation and bushfire safety design."

Mr Hallett said the challenge facing those people who want to rebuild and the many people building on the fringe of capital cities bordering forests is that they need information quickly.

Archicentre has a Bushfire Design Guidelines pdf available for download at http://www.archicentre.com.au/bushfireguide.pdf.
